Polytama is a company that is engaged in the polypropylene industry. Polytama is the second largest producer in Indonesia, representing 35% of local capacity, with a market share of approximately 18%. Since 1996, Polytama has become one of the leading players in the industry with its Masplene® brand. At present, Polytama is poised to expand in order to substitute import, considering approximately 60% of polypropylene needs are fulfilled through imports.
Polytama is TubanPetro’s subsidiary that was established on October 29, 1993. Polytama’s share ownership is controlled by two (2) parties, i.e., TubanPetro with an 80% ownership, and Pasio Investments B.V. with a 20% ownership. Polytama commenced its commercial operation on August 1, 1995. The purpose of Polytama’s establishment is to engage in the Synthetic Resin and Plastic Raw Material industry.
Polytama’s plant is located in Limbangan Village, Juntinyuat District, Indramayu, West Java, and operates using Spheripol technology, one of the best processing technology in the world from Montell (currently Lyondell Basell).
Polytama’s initial polymerization capacity was 100,000 MTPA (Metric Ton Per Annum), which was subsequently increased to 180,000 MTP in 2004, and to 300,000 MTP (consisting of pelletization capacity of 240,000 MTPA and granule capacity of 60,000 MTPA) in 2020. As a result, Polytama’s production in 2020 amounted to 233,971 MT, a 3.95% increase compared to production in 2019, which amounted to 225.089 MT.
In order to meet market demand and consumer needs, Polytama continues to innovate in order to improve production efficiency and to develop products and market. The innovations include, among others, minimizing potential unplanned shutdown by using a Diesel Uninterruptible Power System (DRUPS), development of specialties products, random copolymers product plan through the investment in ethylene injection, and preparation to double its capacity through the polypropylene plant 2 (Integrated PP Plant 2). Pre-Feasibility Study for the PP Plant 2 has been completed and submitted to Pertamina/PT Kilang Pertamina International as the prospective sponsors and raw material supplier.
Other innovation includes the replacement of a portion of boiler fuel from industrial diesel oil to natural gas, which would save up to US$50,000/month in production cost.
